Equipment required;
- Fish head (salmon head in our case)
- Scissors
- Scalpel
- Microscope
- Slide, cover slip
- Distilled water
- Using the scissors or scalpel make a shallow cut along the operculum, in order to not damage the gill filaments while also gaining access.
- Cut a section of the gill arch away so that you have a few gill filaments detached from the arch.
- Wash the filaments with distilled water.
- Cut off a smaller section of the filament so that it can be viewed underneath a microscope to examine the structure of the gill filament.
